Karen Long, CHST, CUSP, CIT

As Director of Safety & Health Services, Karen oversees Charter’s day-to-day safety programs and supports project teams in planning and executing work safely. With more than 30 years of occupational safety experience and over a decade at Charter, she brings extensive technical knowledge and a practical understanding of the challenges teams encounter in the field.

Karen develops safety programs, project-specific plans, and standard operating procedures, while providing training, conducting audits, and working alongside field leadership to address changing site conditions. Her experience includes service as a U.S. Army hazardous materials and marine safety officer. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree from Tufts University.

Karen’s work helps translate Charter’s commitment to safety into everyday action. By connecting planning, education, and field support, she helps employees understand the risks associated with their work and the steps needed to protect themselves and those around them.
