This week, while taking the time to honor and celebrate the contributions of the women in our industry, we’d like to highlight some of the exceptional women at Charter, giving some insight into their roles and career paths, and showcasing the strength and knowledge of women in industry, in alignment with this year’s WIC Week theme, “Keys to Success.”
Today we’re introducing Claire Bradford, Senior Project Engineer, whose journey into the construction industry is a testament to the power of unexpected discoveries and seizing opportunities.
Initially considering degrees in communications or psychology, Claire found herself drawn to engineering at Michigan Tech University, after witnessing the collaborative problem-solving nature of her friends in engineering programs and realizing she had held a misconception that careers in engineering often involved siloed, independent work.
Switching majors to Environmental Engineering, Claire’s passion for hands-on work led her to explore opportunities beyond the traditional career paths of her degree. A chance encounter with a dredging company at a college career fair sparked her interest in construction, setting her on a path she hadn’t anticipated.
Joining Charter as a Senior Project Engineer, Claire’s background in excavation work and education in environmental engineering uniquely positioned her for success. She thrives in her role, which involves startup activities for new projects, including site walks, subcontractor coordination, and vendor management. From the Greenwich Middle School project to the Scovill Superfund Site, Claire navigates diverse project scopes and teams across the region. She values the dynamic nature of her role, relishing the opportunity to work outdoors and immersing herself in the myriad projects Charter undertakes.
As we celebrate Women in Construction Week, Claire emphasized, “the strength and support found among women in the industry. There’s so much hard work, mentorship, and encouragement shared among female colleagues, underscoring the importance of unity and empowerment.”
Thank you, Claire – your passion for what you do inspires us all!
